Rare Black Galaxy Amethyst Geode Cathedral
A one-of-a-kind natural masterpiece, this Amethyst Cathedral Geode is truly a collector’s specimen. Its most prominent feature is the Dark Galaxy Druzy: small, exceptionally clean Amethyst points with a rare black tone that blends with violet and golden goethite inclusions, creating an unparalleled shine.
The druzy displays rare characteristics, most notably the presence of Golden Goethite (also known as Cacoxenite) inclusions throughout. Similar to how Rutile Needles form, Golden Goethite is composed of iron that existed before the quartz took shape, now forever encapsulated within the Amethyst points. These inclusions add to the striking coloration and enhance the geode’s brilliant luster, further increasing its rarity.
This specimen also features numerous Amethyst Flowers (also known as Amethyst Rosettes). These formations appear mainly at the bottom and top, improving how light reflects within the galaxy-like Amethyst and adding an aesthetic edge to the overall composition.
Measuring just over 18 inches tall and weighing 28 pounds, it’s the perfect size for display. Its matrix consists of a thin layer of basalt covered by an agate matrix, which requires reinforcement.
