The agate patterns are very delicate and showcase millions of years of mineral evolution. It starts with the white laces, which are outgrown by a crystal layer that was later filled by a new layer of chalcedony.

You may be wondering, how were the white lace layers formed?
It's just amazing: agates normally form inside bubbles or cavities of igneous (volcanic) basalt and, over time, are filled with layers of water with high concentrations of silica. The water is slowly evaporated, forming a layer of silica gelatin and then a layer is formed. It is a very slow process and each layer contains different impurities, thus forming different colored bands. Fantastic, right?
