Rare Agate Specimen: A Unique Agate Geode Slice with Calcite
This gallery-grade specimen showcases a natural interplay between calcite and agate. Initially, the calcite formed in an aesthetically pleasing twin formation, and over time, agate gradually took shape around it, framing it perfectly. The result is a visually stunning specimen that highlights nature's ability to craft intricate, layered works of art.
Calcite is a very stable mineral; in this case, it formed before the agate and is now effectively sealed off by the surrounding agate. Essentially, the natural processes that formed these minerals ensure that the calcite remains intact, preserving its beauty almost indefinitely.
The agate layers appear primarily as blue laces, with some bandings featuring white tones. Crowning it all, a layer of intense purple crystals has found its way to the center, adding a sparkling quality to the specimen.
It is important to note that this agate geode remains in its purest form, with no treatments applied.
An outstanding specimen, this lace agate is sure to be an amazing addition to your crystal collection. Check out the photos for more details, and feel free to send us a message if you have any questions or specific requests. 🤍
How Were the Laced Agate Layers Formed?
It's truly fascinating: agates normally form inside bubbles or cavities of igneous (volcanic) basalt and, over time, are filled with layers of water with high concentrations of silica. The water is slowly evaporated, forming a layer of silica gelatin, and then a new layer is created. This process occurs very slowly, and each layer contains different impurities, forming the distinct colored bands. Fantastic, right?
